While in the kitchen cooking that delicious meal of the day, you will get your hands dirty and take that mess around the place. It will result in grease stains from your fingers to the counters and cabinets in your kitchen. Aside from the oily feeling you get when you open and shut the kitchen cabinets, the whole look of your kitchen gets sloppy. So how to stop fingerprints on kitchen cabinets?

In this article, you will find out different ways to curb this by ensuring fingerprint-free kitchen cabinets.

Regular cleaning

Following are some ways to effectively remove fingerprints off your Kitchen cabinets. Regardless of the method you choose, always keep a couple of empty spray bottles handy.

§  OTC kitchen grease cleaners

There are plenty of grease cleaners readily available in the market that will do the job for you. Just spray some amount on the kitchen cabinets and wipe them thoroughly with a soft, clean cloth.

§  DIY vinegar cleaner

Add vinegar and warm water to the spray bottle with a 50:50 ratio. Shake well to mix. Add 2/3 drops of dishwashing liquid to the mixture. Spray on the affected area and leave for 2 minutes to rest. Wipe off with a dry and clean cloth.

In case of stubborn stains, let the solution sprayed rest for 2 minutes, and use a soft-bristled brush in a circular motion before wiping with a cloth.

§  DIY citrus oil cleaner

Oil naturally repels grease, which is why many commercial cleaners contain citrus oil. So, pick one on your next visit to the market.

Pour some undiluted citrus oil into the spray bottle and generously spray on the cabinets. Let it rest for a minute. Clean with a damp cloth. Now, use a dry cloth to wipe the area.

Prevention is better than cure

While cleaning your kitchen cabinets does sound satisfactory, it is not a permanent solution. For better relief, try these:

§  Plastic Adhesive

Cover your kitchen cabinets with thin self-adhesive plastic sheets. Not that the plastic coating will be free of the fingerprints, but you can take them off whenever you like to explore your cabinets looking afresh. Don’t forget to put the new sheet on!

§  Wax paper

Here’s an amazing kitchen staple. Coat those cabinets of your kitchen that are likely to encounter your greasy fingers the most with wax paper or newspaper. These layers of paper will collect all the oil and are very easy to replace (not only in terms of effort but easier on the pocket too).

§  Wax-based spray

In the case of stainless steel cabinets, wax-based sprays work wonders to keep the fingerprints off the surface. There are many wax-based spray polishes available in the market to your rescue.

§  Oleophobic coating spray

For ceramic and glass kitchen cabinets, try oil-repelling coatings. These oleophobic coating sprays are easy to get your hands on.

Wipe clean the surface before applying the liquid coating to it. Spray some amount of oil repellant spray to the kitchen cabinet, and again wipe the surface clean once the spray content dries.

A small effort goes a long way!

The irony is that the kitchen cabinets are meant to get dirty. Most of the DIYs are safe to apply on laminated and matt-finished cabinets. Inculcating them in your daily routine can save you from the hassle of stubborn stains.
